The Lingholm Collection Painting in the North and West Lakes
Lake District Painters and writers have an historic attachment to The Lingholm Estate and the Vale of Keswick that has continued into the present day. Dr Dalton, William Turner, Constable, Dr John Brown, Ruskin and Beatrice Potter amongst many others found inspiration here. They marvelled in the pure sparkling lake and the high and steep fells. "Derwent water, here was beauty lying in the lap of horrour" wrote Charles Avison in 1780.
The Derwent Water fells have many faces which vary according to the time of day, the season and the weather. They are often painted as dark and stormy. But as Robs residency and the tryptichs show whether they are as often cloaked in sunshine or are mist and snow they are beautiful.
