Sandwiched between the industrial Towns of Bolton, Blackburn and Chorley and the City of Preston, the West Pennine Moors hide some beautiful country corners. No more so than the ancient wooded vale of Roddlesworth.
I painted the scene on the left standing and peering over the hedge at the back of Heights Farm in July Mid-Summer. A hot day looking North by North East towards Darwen Tower Roddlesworth Woods and Butterworth Brow 30x30 cm.
The rest of the pochades below are from the same location all painted over a month. I enjoyed painting this everyday Lancashire Cottage Garden were plants and colour vie with each other for space.
The last work Winters Road Tockholes is included as a reminder of why we Lancastrians celebrate May day with an annual clog dance. "Don't cast a claut till Mays owt" is what my Granma Miller used to say. After May day if theres no football on we then retire to Brinscalls Crickiters Arms for the rest of the summer if its a warm un.
The works are available from me at email@example.com They can be viewed by arrangement at Falcon Mill Unframed Friday. Details from the same email address.
