Rob Miller Lake District paintings

Relatively secluded, the Longsleddale valley in the Lake District is a delightful place to explore. A walk through the valley guides you to the peak of Gatescarth Pass. The upper stretches of the valley are truly breathtaking. The cobbled lane ascends gently for most of its duration, although it does become steeper as you pass Raven Crag. Beside you, the young River Sprint rushes through a rocky gorge on its journey to the sea. Once suitably invigorated, continue north to reach the summit of Gatescarth Pass, where you’ll be greeted with your first glimpse of Mardale and Haweswater Reservoir. This valley serves as a fantastic starting point to capture the unique interplay of light that exists between the lush valley meadows and the untamed allure of the high fells...

OIL PAINTINGS OF DERWENTWATER

Vibrant Autumn: The hues of Catbells and Derwentwater, in their varying moods, create a tapestry of adventure.

The autumn majesty of Catbells ignites a tempest of colors, steadfast in resisting winter's encroachment. St. Herbert's Island, bathed in Derwentwater's soft bronze glow after the storm has passed, creates a serene backdrop. Causey Pike emerges as one of the first fells to embrace the morning light above Derwentwater. This captivating scene evokes a deep sense of adventure awaiting us today, while the stillness hangs heavy over the lake. The birds remain quiet, with the only sound being the subdued swell lapping gently against the beach.

Paintings of the Lake District sweet Dales and valleys

  • The importance of being designated as a National Park in the valleys and dales of the Lake District is indisputable. Rustic farm walls and charming farmhouses dot the landscape, with barns embellishing the winding lanes, which are lined with magnificent trees. Set against the backdrop of towering fells and rugged crags, this creates a stunning tapestry of views.

  • In Lakeland, inspiration is abundant. The changing moods brought by the four seasons add to its allure throughout the year.

Painting the Lake District Fells.

The beauty of the Lake District is undeniable from any vantage point. However, the Lakeland Fells possess a unique poetry that invites solitary reflection. Discovering a tranquil spot high above the valley, where you can ponder the drifting clouds over a distant lake, is a true delight. Alternatively, you might challenge yourself against nature while traversing a steep ridge or making your ascent on a cold winter climb.

There is no shortage of subject matter and no shortage of mood as the four seasons pass through the year.

Paintings of the Lake District Tarns, Waters and Lakes

One of the most enduringly beautiful sights of the English Lake District is its tarns and lakes, framed by steep rock buttresses or nestled in deep valleys, often seen in the distance through shaded trees.

Throughout the 4 seasons they act as a mirrow to the high and low.

A Lakeland Commission .

Painting at the Lingholm Estate

Lingholm is a stunning and expansive estate situated on the western shore of Derwentwater. It served as the holiday retreat for Beatrice Potter, where she enjoyed seven delightful summers and penned numerous beloved children's tales, including the cherished Peter Rabbit. Lord Rochdale subsequently shaped the site into its present form.

II was commissioned to create two large triptychs for the Stone Room. This impressive space features intricately carved oak paneling and is part of the main house. Its grand design includes three substantial mullion windows and a fireplace crafted from exquisite Italian blue sandstone. The triptychs depict the majestic Fells encircling Derwentwater, showcasing the North Fells, which include Skiddaw, Blencathra, Causey Pike, and Catbells. In the southern view, I've illustrated the stunning Fells that form the iconic Jaws of Borrowdale.

OIL PAINTINGS OF DERWENTWATER

We are following in the footsteps of landscape painters through the centurys and there are still viging scenes and their nuances left to pain

Therefore am I still a lover of the meadows and the woods, and mountains; and of all that we behold from this green earth.
